TOY... of the month.

OF THE MONTH
CRYSTAR!
Of the month presents... Crystar! One of the quintessential toy lines from the 80's, (the BEST toy decade ever!) these were warriors made of crystals that duked it out with villians made from magma and rock. I only had the blue guy with the shield... but he was dope and I simply had him team up with GI Joe or He-Man or somebody. Can you imagine a CRYSTAR movie with today's special effects?! One can dream. You'd gotta get Wesley Snipes for the green guy though.

'Veggie Love': PETA's Banned Super Bowl Ad

Man... this commercial is getting all types of hate, they won't play it! Man... I have seen way more sexier ads than this! This looks like a regular Victoria Secrets commercial. The only reason they are so mad is because PETA is behind it- they get no LOVE in the Media. If this was for Burger King or Axe body spray you'd hear a peep but that's all, it would not be banned!

So I went into Indy CD & Vinyl yesterday ,my old job and where I like to shop, and Rick was playing Franz Ferdinand "Tonight". This caught my attention right away! I snatched this up and came home and made my famous tacos Grey talked about last week. My Lady and I danced all the way through the CD. I've never owned anything they have done except for the song "Take Me Out". "Tonight" is Truly an amazing CD. Tacos were too. I want to thank Rick very much for playing this....

Key songs: Ulysses, No You Girls, Twilight Omens, What she Came For, & Dream Again.

I give this 4 mics out of 5!

Go buy this album and support local shops!

Weapon... of the month.

OF THE MONTH
"OF THE MONTH," presents the metal, razor boomerang! Most notably used in the 1981 sequel to Mad Max... Mad Max 2, the Road Warrior.  It can cleave a human skull and swiftly remove fingers... yes, friends, this weapon is beastly. In the film, it belongs to the Feral Boy, (Emil Minty) a little boy that acts like a dog and digs tunnels underground. Note the animal-hide glove, with chainmail palm, for catching the weapon... a must-have accessory for any serious razor boomerang enthusiast. I've thrown a boomerang before... it's hard.

Check out the battle here.

I think everyone should find out when google maps is coming through their town and create a funny scene for everyone to see. I would like to see who comes up with the most original.

Good luck!

Does google maps even let people know when it comes to town?

There is a GOD!!! Reggie in Boston!

Oh Snap. Word is that Reggie Miller might make a comeback...with the BOSTON CELTICS!!!!
If you don't know, Miller is my favorite "hooper" of ALL-TIME!!! Please... spare me your wack-ass Reggie jokes...I've heard them all.Thanks. I've never had a better time (or worse time) watching NBA Basketball than watching Reggie N Crew go to the playoffs (but never win). Classic! Also,if Reggie goes to the Celtics he might be able to get that Ring he so rightly deserves. FUCK YOU HATERS!

Swagger Jacked from SLAMONLINE

Top Ten Tuesday!

Top 10 movies that make 812 cry (In no particular order)

1) Forrest Gump- Your heart really has to go out to Forrest. Homie gets makes fun of all his life. Has a jacked up mother, falls in life with a crackhead. But the whole time he does the right thing. You gotta give him respect. BTW never read the sequel…just don’t its WHACK.

2) Do The Right Thing- Bed Stuy do or die! Prolly tied for my fav movie of all time(the other being Apocalypse Now) . Most of the movie I bust my ass off lauging till the end. ..My homie Radio Raheem. ..so sad.. DJ Metrognome likes to call me Radio Raheem, I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment or an insult!

3)Higher Learning- Once again I laugh through most of the movie. How can you not, Busta Ryhmes and Ice Cube clown the whole time! Plus the rape scene is kinda funny (sorry ladies). But once again the end just gets to me. I knew from this movie what most people know now, Trya Banks is whack. However, there is a nude scene with her.

4) Lean on Me- Mr Clark someone is beating up Kid Ray! Now they call me batman! Get the chains off the doors! So many good lines come from this movie. I remember as a kid watching this and one of the scene were they show East Side high had gone down the tubes and Welcome to the Jungle was playing in the background and the teachers skulls got rammed into the floor…shit scared me for life. I’m not going to lie I was terrified to go to HS because of this movie.

5) Little Man Tate- A lot of people don’t know about this movie. Basics of it is Jodie Foster has a 7 year old son who is a genius. And well let’s just say she is not the best “fit” for raising him. You gotta feel for her as a mother and little man Tate who is just trying to be a good. heartbreaking

6) The Wizard- Taking it back to ’89. This kid and his friends run away from abusive parents to go play at the Nintendo World Video game Championships. I have a strong feeling Brookinz was there playing also.

7) My Girl- Just flippin sad…nuff said

8) Imitation of Life- This honestly should be #1 Period. In fact just go get it NOW. There are two versions of the movie one from the 30’s and the 50’s. Just due to the time period it’s a ground breaking film. There is this girl who is light skinned and starts “passing” She disowns her black mother, truly tragic. I’m crying just thinking about it.

9) Boyz N the hood- So I don’t have any brothers or sisters. But I have a ton of cousins. I use to spend the weekends at their houses and do what kids do. Well one of my cousins who was a couple hers older than me, got this movie. From the jump I was so flippin scared . I don’t really know it at the time till we watch the movie, but my aunts house who we were watching the movie at was dating a drug dealer named Rabbit ( Really I can make this up) As we are watching the movie pieces start coming together and I realize I’m in a drug house! I could not sleep the whole night thinking a drive by was going to happen.

10) E.T- Do I really need to explain this??

A levitating wirelessly powered lightbulb.

light bulb

light bulb is a levitating yet powered lightbulb. It will float stably in midair and remain on for years without any physical contact, charging, or batteries. Ironically, with the levitation and wireless power circuitry both on, this entire package still consumes less than half the power of an incandescent bulb.

This is not a trick or a photoshop manipulation. The bulb and the casing contain hidden circuitry [shown in figures] that uses electromagnetic feedback to levitate the bulb roughly 2.5" from the nearest object, and uses coupled resonant wireless power transfer to beam power from the housing into the bulb itself.

Tesla invented wireless power transfer in the late 1890's. However this effect is still largely underutilized. I wanted to explore this effect coupled with feedback stabilization of a naturally unstable object. Details in the figures highlight the embedded circuitry and techniques used to levitate and power the bulb.

WOW! this is what I'm talking about! it's 2009 man... IT'S THE FUTURE! come'on, "back to the future" hoverboard come to Grey!

The Grey Granite interview series...

So here's what hopes to be the first of many interviews with our guy, the man of the hour, Grey Granite! This one takes place at Gnosis in Broadripple... a hot new store for vinyl toys, collectibles and plush. We're trying to hook up some more performance footage too, so.... be on the lookout for that as well!

Have you seen this!? This homeless gentleman is straight puttin' it down! With nods from FADER and a couple other spots... could this guy be on his way to something bigger? I sure hope so.

And here's the footage of him a little later after apparently acquiring some sort of representation.

Hermanos Dedos

My old, high-school friends and I have been making music since... I can't even remember. TRUE basement styles. Old, busted amps that short out half the time, guitars with two strings, drum kits with no kick pedal and crashes that sound like your hitting a tin can. All music and lyrics made up completely on the spot and recorded on one take. But I must say, that we always managed to come up with something decent and had a good time doing it. With influences spanning from independent rock, hip hop, funk, acoustic, bluegrass, jazz and many more, too numerous to count... we are an eclectic bunch to say the least.

We'd record on tape for years... using someone's jambox or my grandfather's old tape-deck recorder. We went by the name, "Skipants" (Skee-pants) for many years but alas, people grow up, move away and the members change.

So this group of us is called "Hermanos Dedos." Loosely translated as "Brother's Fingers." It was recorded in a basement (as was most of our recordings) on Kessler Blvd, in Indianapolis and consists of my brother, some friends and me. I've been asked to post this, so here it is. It's just brothers getting together in a basement, using what we got, getting drunk on sake and whiskey and pouring our hearts out over strings and electronics.

If you're on Facebook... my brother made us a page

P.S. Stay with me on "Gift," it's a love song.
Hit me with some comments too.

Portrait of a Yearbook.

In the 1970s New Yorker Laurie Munn serendipitously discovered a 1965 yearbook titled The Altruist lying on top of a trash heap in Chelsea.  She saved the book for thirty years, recently uncovering it amongst her belongings while back in school for her MFA and needing a new idea for a project.  She flipped through the yearbook deciding to paint the portrait of each graduating senior.

For background research, she went to check out the high school itself with a camera in tow, and while waiting in the principle's office, started talking to a man who just happened to have been in the 1965 graduating class of that high school.  He leafed through the book, finding out that the yearbook Laurie found was that of his classmate who he heard committed suicide shortly after high school, and that he had in fact written a message to him in his yearbook.  She eventually connected with a few other former Altruist seniors who gave her a little more insight into the portraits she was painting.

For thirty years she held this book in her posession-- probably buried in some closet or on a dusty bookshelf, never knowing how many stories were secreted between the pages.  Tragedies, humourous stories, embarrassments, the mundane.  How many forgotten objects, saved for some random reason, have stories tucked inside?

Purple Drank

Let me keep Grey's post about white people do this a black people do this alive a little bit longer... So I get the opportunity to guest DJ at this spot tonight. It was a pretty laid back crowd. The drink of the night was Purple Panty dropper ( not to be confused about Jmoore's Pink Panty dropper). I thought it was the perfect time to drop "Sugar, Water, Purple". I kid you not there were maybe two black people in the spot. When the song dropped a good 15 black mofos came out of no where and went nuts. Besides them and a couple white folks who are Dave Chappelle experts no one had a clue what the hell was going on. It was lovely. I really need to take

How to make your own 3D camera for $15!

Photojojo shows you how to make your own 3D camera for less than $15 and enter the fabulous world of the 3rd Dimension, all need just two disposable cameras and some duct tape.
Step 1: Turn one of the cameras upside down to get the two lenses as close together as possible (lenses aren't usually located in the center of the camera). Line the cameras up so the lenses are on the same level.
Step 2: Tape the cameras together with duct tape. Don't cover up the shutter buttons or winding mechanisms.
Step 3: Go out and shoot! To take a picture, press both shutter buttons at the same time.
Step 4: Just have fun and accept that this method won't give you pro results.
Since the lenses are about 4 inches apart and human eyes are usually 2.5 to 3 inches apart, the 3D effect won't be perfect. And besides, it's a disposable camera, so treat it as a toy and just have a good time.
Tips:
Having subjects in the foreground and the background will show more of the 3D effect. Just like any good 3D horror movie, the best shots show something coming out of the picture at you.
Remember that the cameras won't focus closer than about three feet.
If you need to use flash, turn on the flashes for both cameras and expect things to come out a little weird.

Photobucket

How To View

Method 1
The simplest way to see the stereo effect is to view the two images side-by-side. Cross your eyes until the two images become three images. Focus on the image in the center and you’ll be able to see the 3D effect. It’s tricky to get the hang of, and feels extremely weird, but it does work.

Method 2
Here’s how to do it in Photoshop:
Step 1: Scan your stereo images.

Step 2: Select the first image, copy and paste it into a new file. Select the 2nd image, copy and paste it into the same file. You’ll now have two layers on top of each other.

Step 3: Open the animation window (Window -> Animation). There will be one frame by default. Make a second frame by clicking on the little “page” icon at the bottom of the animation toolbar.

Step 4: Click on the second frame.
Turn off the top layer by clicking on the “eye” icon. Now the frames should show one image in the first frame and the other image in the second frame.

Step 5: Set the interval by clicking on the frame where it says “0 sec.” Change the delay interval to 0.1 seconds. Do this for both frames. Click the “play” icon to see how your animation looks. If it’s “wiggling” too fast, change to interval to 0.2 or 0.3.

Step 6: When you like what you see, save for web (File -> Save For Web) as a GIF file. Ta-dah! All done.
