HG: 1. Quick, name 3 new
Artist that you love right now! Danielle: I just picked up some new favorites at SXSW.
A. I sniffed out He's
My Brother, She's My Sister before I went to South By & set up an interview with them. They were
fun and crazy and the performance exceeded expectations.
B. I discovered Dual Mode at a Portland, OR showcase at a hole-in-the-wall bar called The Grackle on Austin's east side. As described in my recap, Dual Mode is "one part production and two parts emcee; their minimalist approach to crude electronic hip hop is racy, irresistible, and unapologetic."
C. Cherub, a glam rock electronic two piece from Nashville, TN who sound like a less-flamboyant Scissor Sisters. On Saturday afternoon, the closing day of SXSW, they played for a tiny room of less than 50 people in a house-turned-sushi bar called Wuwu. We did an interview after the set where they gave me the recipe for an Emergen-C Mimosa as festival survival advice.

HG: 2. What exciting things are on the rise for indyMojo?
Danielle: We're still basking in the glow of the launch of Mojo Radio. The interface is endlessly improving, the iPhone and Android apps are live & functioning, and new station IDs & local tracks are popping up more and more frequently. Program Director Rudy Kizer was in Miami, FL recently for Ultra and aired updates and interviews throughout the weekend. I expect the next jump to be regular shows from the G9 roster of DJs & producers, and eventually my own show that will focus on local music and musicians.

HG: 3. What albums are you
looking forward to hearing this year?
Danielle: "Matangi" by M.I.A.
"Random Access Memories" by Daft Punk
the second half of ""The 20/20 Experience" by Justin Timberlake
Also,
that new Indian City Weather album. Last update from the band was on March 19th:
Just had some good news pop up about or new full
length that's been in limbo forever. We're not dead, I pinky swear.Danielle: "Matangi" by M.I.A.

HG: 8. What do you feel
is missing from the music scene in Indy?
Danielle: I think a lot of people get too comfortable with local fame and never aspire to go any further than that. We have some incredible talent that would be adored by music lovers outside of the city just as much as their hometown fans, but the only way that will happen is if the bands pack up the gear and play out to new cities and get in front of new crowds.
Second
to that, once they hit the road they need to share the experience. I would like
to see more of Indy's bands and artists reporting back on shows and tours.
Create a buzz for yourself by letting your fan base see you in action and watch
you grow.Danielle: I think a lot of people get too comfortable with local fame and never aspire to go any further than that. HG: 9. If you could tour
as a writer with any Artist who would that be?
Danielle: As amazing as it would be to follow a famous artist with crazy fans and huge production, I’d equally rather tour with a local band. Right now I really admire Cosby Sweater, who will make a commendable entry into the festival circuit this summer with appearances at Summer Camp, Electric Forest, and Camp Bisco. They’re also strategically cultivating a fan base in Colorado, having already played there once before and following up with a day in Boulder on April 5th and a return tour in May. How cool would it be to bring to take Indianapolis along on tour with a homegrown band like Cosby Sweater?
