J.Brookinz 10 Favorite Indianapolis Hip-Hop Cuts

Mudkids - Catalogue (prod, by Elp Mass)
I know. I could have picked a hundred songs from these guys but this is my favorite. It's almost a perfect track to play for someone whose never heard the Mudkids (MC Rusty Redenbacher and DJ/Producer Elp Mass). It's an introduction to their world. I always ask Rusty to perform this every time I see them live but I don't think they have the instrumental anymore. Don't worry tho, I'm working on that.

Grey Granite - Unseen (prod. by. Grey Granite)
Ahhhhhh...my dog Grey Granite. Again, I could have picked a thousand tracks. BUT, I wanted to keep songs that I had a part in (producing) off this list. This song is the perfect Grey song. It's heartfelt, honest, and it jams. The only problem I had with this cut was the length. It was SUPER short. But I guess that was good because I would just listen to it over and over again. Lots of emotion in this track, I still quote the opening line out loud every once in a while..."These years go by so fast, Future racing past..."
If you want to hear this song ask @greygranite to put it on the web!!!

Alpha - Wonder Why I Call You Crazy (prod. by Beatroom)
Wow. Amazing. A PERFECT joint. Any artist has been through this situation. Balancing art and relationships is one the most difficult things in the world. MC Alpha paints the picture perfectly. And don't get me started on this beat...no words.

Twilight Sentinels - I Got A (prod. by Joe Harvey)
AGAIN!...these cats put out A LOT of good music but this is me fave! You know it's about to be epic when the intro starts. Then, BLAM, that sample just sends chills down my spine. Joe and Mike pour their hearts out on this track. I mean what else could you do to a jam like this...hats off fellas.

Com.Dot - I Get Down
One thing you can ALWAYS expect from Comdot is good old straight forward RAWNESS. You never get the feeling that he's holding back when you hear him spit. So when I heard this I was like DAMN...THIS DUDE IS GOING IN!!!!! This is redemption music. This is Music you play before you get in the boxing ring. This is that "Bottom Situation" Music. This is a classic Naptown cut.

Oreo Jones - Good Times (prod. by The Amazing 90lbs.)
"Things have changed..." Oreo wasn't lying. This song hit Naptown by storm! It's undeniable. I remember getting a sneak peek from Oreo in his car and thinking to myself "HOLY SHIT!...this dudes got it!" This is that feel good music right here. What up 90lbs!!!!

Nightriders - Jump Off The Planet (prod. by Jam P Astro)
This is exactly what it says, it's music to jump off your planet. It's futuristic, catchy, and when you hear it live it goes pretty ham. Bob G.Barker and Jam P Astro just complement each other. They're complete opposites but when together, they fit perfectly. I still rock this song weekly and the album isn't even out yet.

Nappyville - I'm A Rolla
Classic sample. Amazing video. And plenty of swag on this joint right here. This is that riding music. I know they have more popular songs but this one really struck a chord with me. It's just a smooth joint.

Son of Thought - What's Good (Joe Harvey Remix)
I've only heard this song live...a hundred times. It never gets old. Son is so comfortable on this track. He spits it effortlessly like he's been saying it for 20 years. You gotta dig that. But the crazy part about this song is I've NEVER heard the original. I'm guessing this just became the original because it's so good.

Fire - Fat Boy Swag

Oh SNAP...did this dude sample Betty Boop??? Yes. I think he did. This another joint I've only heard live. I'm not trippin tho, It's always a treat when I do hear it. It's  got that bounce to it. I dare you to listen to this song and not move!!! "Mami you are so skinny, Fire weigh like fo -fitty..."

____________________________________________________________
sidenotes: 1. This is not in any order...these are ALL jams and I feel equally about each song. 2. There some DOPE joints I left off so don't be sad if you didn't make the list...I'll do a part 2 one day. 3. I did not not put ANYTHING I produced on this list...I know I make jams so maybe I'll do another list of MY Top 10 Jams!!!!
